Škocjan Caves

Slovenia’s extensive subterranean system of caves is impressive beyond words.

Slovenia’s extensive subterranean system of caves is impressive beyond words. Perhaps less known as the famous Postojna Cave, but no less spellbinding, are the Škocjan Caves. Descending into this underground spectacle of epic proportions makes you feel tiny in comparison. Magnificent chambers, sinkholes and a giant canyon transport you into a memorizing alien world. The Škocjan Caves have been on UNESCO’s list of world heritage sites since 1986. The entire area is of great cultural and historical significance as it has been inhabited by people since the Mesolithic period. Pictures cannot do it justice; you simply have to see it for yourself.
