Slovenia boasts over 28,000 wineries in 9 distinct wine regions, which produce over 50 different grape varieties, some indigenous to Slovenia. The long viticultural history and diverse geographical features offer the perfect conditions for the creation of many tasty wines. Noticed by high-end gastronomy circles, Slovenian wines are becoming popular among visitors, who are pleasantly surprised and pleased by their discovery. In order to really delve into Slovenian wine culture, it is best to spend some time in the wine country, seeing its beauty and meeting its people. This day trip will take you to the Slovenian wine region called Vipava Valley. We will go on an easy walk through local vineyards, learning more about the terroir - the climate and the soil - and seeing how grapes grow. We will visit boutique winemakers and learn about their wine making process directly from them in the intimate setting of a rustic family-owned wine cellar. There, you will get to know all about their history and their humble beginnings. Certainly, a visit to a wine cellar cannot be complete without a wine tasting. You will be introduced to the local wines, the Slovenian wine culture and the peculiarities of Vipava Valley wine region. You will taste some internationally-renowned local varieties, typical for Slovenia or even just Vipava Valley. More: Wine Tours in Slovenia

Frequently Asked Questions

I am a single traveller, how can I book?

Don’t worry, just drop us a line in our inbox. We will do our best to try and find you some company, so if you are flexible in your travel dates, let us know as well. Do you want a private trip? No problem, we got you covered too.

Where do we meet for the day trip?

There are 4 designated pickup and drop-off locations that we use in downtown Ljubljana (see the options when booking). Your driver will be driving between multiple pickup locations, so we kindly ask you to allow a 20-minute window for your pickup, although we will do our best to be there on time. In case you would like to be picked up / dropped off at a different location, we can accommodate that with a surcharge of 9€/booking.

Is there lunch at a restaurant or do I have to bring my own?

There is a local authentic lunch with traditional Slovenian dishes planned at a lovely local restaurant or at one of the wineries, depending on their availability.

How fit do I need to be for Slovenia wine tour?

The walks in the vineyards are easy and relaxing, so there is no strenuous activity on this day trip.

What should I wear? Do I have to bring anything with me?

It is important to dress for the season. Slovenia has all 4 seasons, so please check the weather forecast before the day trip regarding temperatures and rainfall. When you are close to the Alps, the weather can change fairly quickly, so your best bet is to always bring an extra layer. We recommend shoes you will be comfortable in.

I have food restrictions. Are there restaurants for me?

It really depends on the level of your restriction. Vegetarian options are fairly easy to find in Slovenia, but vegan dishes, on the other hand, are extremely hard to come by in rural areas of the country and in smaller towns. Please note, that the places where we stop off at for lunch are often traditional and may have difficulties accommodating you outside of their standard menu. We suggest you keep this in mind.

Will I have some time to myself?

If you want to, sure! We are well aware that some people love to stay in groups while others prefer some more alone time on their trip. We wanted to give you the opportunity to do things your way. It is your holiday, after all! As long as you respect the group timings and locations designated by your guide, please feel free to customize your itinerary and create your own adventure!

I really wanted to take a trip to the Slovene countryside because I was told the southern part was particularly beautiful. The wine tour sort of corresponded with this. They took us to this super cute village and vineyards, where a family of winemakers lives. I got to taste some very flavoury wines and the company was incredible. You can see how the wine tradition in Slovenia is so special. I recommend this trip. I went alone and had an amazing time!

Lovely trip, tasty wine and local food, friendly hosts and a professional guide. Overall, great organization and value for money. If you want a nice day trip to the country with a bunch of friendly folks, this is a must when in Slovenia.

I was in Koper with a couple of friends and we wanted to see the rural side of Slovenia. This offer was perfect for us: wine and relaxation! And no need to drive:)But it in the end it was so much more. Our guide was fantastic and we learned a great deal about Slovenian culture and why the wine is so special. It was a great day out and we’re taking a few bottles home with us!:)
