A day trip is the easiest way to get from Bled to Bohinj, but on this tour, you will see much more than just this. Only a short drive from the lake and tucked into a narrow valley, lies the Vintgar Gorge, one of the most popular attractions around Bled. A 1.5 hour hike will lead you through the ravine as you admire the clear flow of Radovna River, walk over bridges and tread the boardwalks, every bend more picturesque than the last.
Our journey will continue on the Pokljuka Plateau, famous for its hiking and cross-country skiing trails where biathlon championships are held every year. Its wonderful pine forests are a remarkable sight, growing at elevation reaching well above 1000 meters (3280 feet). From this home to abundant flora and fauna we will descend on a windy road to the glacially-made marvel of Lake Bohinj.
We will plan for a lunch stop – either at a traditional local restaurant, or a picnic lunch at one of the meadows if you bring your own. Next, we will continue to Lake Bohinj, which lies at the heart of Triglav National Park. Most locals prefer the tranquillity and unspoilt nature of Lake Bohinj to the more famous Lake Bled. The views over the water, and, if you are lucky, over the mountains, are sure to leave you speechless. Hear local legends, take some perfect snaps and choose how you will spend the rest of your afternoon.
There is some nice hiking in the area and you can choose from a few different options. You can hike another beautiful gorge called Mostnica (most=bridge), which differs from Vintgar Gorge mainly in the fact that you are not in it but rather walking on top or over it on multiple bridges, giving you a look down the narrow crevices.
If you prefer a bit more exercise, then the hike on some 550+ steps leading to Savica Waterfall is just for you. The reward at the top is a stunning double green waterfall of the clearest mountain waters.
For the best views of the area, you should opt for a cable car ride up to Vogel Mountain, where you will feel like the entire Lake Bohinj would fit into the palm of your hand as you witness the crown of alpine peaks surrounding the lake. Optionally, you can spend time walking along the lake’s shores or use the afternoon for a refreshing swim in the summer months.
