This Bled and Bohinj valley tour from Ljubljana will start at Vintgar Gorge, a remarkable ravine located in Triglav National Park, carved into the rock by pristine green waters of Radovna River. Spend 1.5 hours walking through the picturesque gorge on a trail and boardwalks that zigzag above the river bed. Vintgar Gorge is closed during winter months.
Our next stop is the undisputed favourite destination in Slovenia, Lake Bled. There, we will give you the option to visit the oldest castle in Slovenia, Castle Bled, as well as the picturesque Bled island on a traditional rowboat called pletna. If you prefer to walk around the lake, swim in the summer, or spend time in Bled resort town, your guide will arrange a pick-up time and location before you continue the day towards Lake Bohinj. In the afternoon, you will again spend time in the Triglav National Park, in the area of Lake Bohinj – the bigger but lesser-known brother of Lake Bled. Most locals prefer the tranquillity and unspoilt nature of Lake Bohinj: the views over the water, and, on a sunny day, over the mountains, are bound to leave you speechless. Hear the local legends about the area, take some perfect snaps and decide on how you will spend the rest of your afternoon.
There is some nice hiking in the area and you can choose from a few different options. You can hike another beautiful gorge called Mostnica (most=bridge) which differs from Vintgar Gorge mainly in the fact that you are not in it but rather walking on its edges or over it on multiple bridges, giving you the option to look down the narrow crevices. If you prefer a steeper challenge, then the hike on some 550+ steps leading to Savica waterfall* is just for you. The reward at the top is a stunning double green waterfall of the clearest mountain waters. For the best views of the area, you should opt for a cable car ride up to Vogel Mountain, where you will witness the crown of alpine peaks surrounding the lake and feel like the entire lake would fit into the palm of your hand.
Optionally, you can spend time walking along the lake’s shores or use the afternoon for a refreshing swim in the summer months. As you return to Ljubljana around 7 PM, you won’t be tired, but energized from a day of taking in some of the best sights nature has to offer.
