Postojna Cave is the cradle of cave explorations in the world and one of the most visited attractions in Slovenia. Start with an exciting train ride that will take you deep underground to the towering halls of Postojna Cave. Join a walking tour through the unique world of dripstones and halls, all created millions of years ago, and learn about the active growth of the cave as well as the enigmatic fauna inside it.
Meet an incredible creature, the olm, which lives inside these caves and is called “the human fish” (človeška ribica) in Slovenian due to its skin-like color. It has been nicknamed “the baby dragon” due to its visual similarities to the mythological beasts. This spectacular place below the surface has been visited for the last 200 years by over 38 million people from around the world.
Our next stop will be Predjama Castle, a unique medieval structure built into a sheer cliff around the mouth of a cave. It boasts a Guinness world record as the largest cave castle in the world. It was home to the legendary Erazem of Predjama, a rogue knight whose story rivals that of Robin Hood. Optionally, take an audio-guided tour through the multiple levels of the castle (*there are roughly 200 steps inside) or take in the panorama from the outside while enjoying a drink or a picnic.
