A giant glacial lake straight out of a fairy-tale, Lake Bohinj is perhaps a wilder, less touristy version of Lake Bled. It’s a very pristine and popular sports destination, but due to its size and layout, the area around Lake Bohinj never feels overcrowded.

The lake’s waters are crisp, reaching around 22°C in summer. Perfect for a refreshing dip. There are swimming areas all the way down its shoreline and canoes, kayaks, paddle boats and SUPs present fantastic means for exploring this 4-km long and 1-km wide wonder.

At the south-eastern edge of the lake there’s the village of Ribčev Laz, with its 16th century church dedicated to St. John the Baptist and a pretty stone bridge over the Sava Bohinjka River underneath.

This Alpine treasure offers stunning vistas and uncountable hiking and cycling opportunities. Besides walking around the lake itself, hiking up to the amazing Savica Waterfall and the nearby Mostnica Gorge is a must.

Excellent outdoor activities, combined with its breath-taking nature and hospitality of the locals make Lake Bohinj and its surrounding area a-year-round holiday destination and an excellent base for exploring the wider Alpine region of Slovenia.
