Heading south, to the Karst region of Slovenia, we will discover the immense underground treasure known as Postojna cave. A remarkable system of underground halls, tunnels and dripstone formations, it is one of the most popular attractions in the country. To make it more exciting, the visit of Postojna Cave starts on a small electric train ride that takes you into its depths. A guided walking tour inside the cave will uncover its mysteries, including the olm, an intriguing creature nicknamed “the baby dragon”.
After an unbelievably short 1.5hrs we will continue to Predjama Castle – a castle so unique it is listed in the Guinness book of records. The legends and the stories behind the castle are almost as incredible as its location, tucked into a rock cliff hiding an entire cave behind it. If you decide to enter it, a guided tour will take you all the way into the cave, and you will have a short lunch break as you come out. For those who’d prefer to marvel at this architectural wonder from the outside, there will be plenty of time to grab a snack at the restaurant or enjoy a picnic on the meadows below the castle.
Your trip will continue to Ljubljana, the small, but charming capital of Slovenia. On your guided tour you will learn about Ljubljana’s history, architecture and culture, as well as legends and stories about local life today. After the tour, you will be able to enjoy plenty of free time to explore on your own, or hop on a boat on Ljubljanica River and explore the city a bit further. For the best view of the town, you can opt to visit Ljubljana Castle with a funicular ride and see its numerous exhibitions, film projections and a great viewing tower.
