Slovenian Istria and the Mediterranean Coast
Slovenian Istria is a region in southwest Slovenia and is part of the Istrian peninsula and the wider geographical-historical region known as the Slovene Littoral. Its largest urban centre is Koper, with the entire region consisting of around 120 settlements. This Mediterranean part of the country has a very diverse and complex history, shared with Italy and Croatia. Famous for its wine, olive oil and salt production, Slovenian Istria is a very popular tourist destination. Most villages and town date back to Venetian time, an element well reflected in the local architecture.
