If Slovenia is the “Crossroads of Europe,” then its gorgeous capital Ljubljana is the meeting point of this subalpine country.

The city has been blessed with an extremely favourable location. It’s situated in the lower part of the Ljubljana Basin where all the main connections leading to every part of the country meet.

This makes travelling to any major tourist attraction from the capital easy, including one of our most Iconic landmarks – Lake Bled.

For anyone who wants to visit Bled — for a fairytale wedding in Slovenia, alpine holiday, or just for a short break — let’s look at the best ways to get there.

By road and rail

TRAIN

The most traditional and longest way of getting from Ljubljana to Lake Bled is by train. You hop on board at Ljubljana’s main train station, conveniently located right in the centre of town. The journey takes roughly 1.5 hours and ends at the Bled Lesce station, which is just over 3.5 km outside Bled, a short taxi ride to the town of Bled and its famous lake.

BUS

Another direct connection from Ljubljana to Lake Bled is by bus. The bus ride takes just over an hour and a one-way ticket will set you back about six euros. You can catch the bus at various bus stops around Ljubljana, including Tivoli Park, and the coach also stops at Slovenia’s main international airport in Brnik.

TAXI or RENT-A-CAR

Another Ljubljana to Lake Bled travel option is to go by taxi. You’ll be enjoying the lakeside views in just under an hour, depending on the traffic. But do make sure to negotiate the price beforehand. If it costs more sixty or seventy euros, you’re probably getting ripped off.

Then there’s car rental. Ljubljana has several rent-a-car companies, so finding a suitable one shouldn’t be a problem. It’ll give you more flexibility in organizing your trip.

CARPOOLING or HITCHHIKING

Carpooling is not the most reliable option. That said, the Ljubljana to Lake Bled route is a popular one, so if you check out the official website, you might get lucky and will give you a lift.

If you’re a young enthusiastic traveler on a budget, hitchhiking from Ljubljana to Lake Bled is also a legit option. But please make sure to do it responsibly by choosing a safe spot.
