Getting to know the Lake Bled is a wonderful experience that comes highly recommended by locals and foreigners alike. Ever wanted to hitch a boat to the middle of a fairy-tale-like glacial lake in the embrace of the Julian Alps? Of course you have. One such lake happens to be located only 30-40 minutes away from Ljubljana airport. The one-and-only we should say – Lake Bled. Situated on the edge of Triglav National Park, the town of Bled and its idyllic lake are depicted on millions of postcards. The place is synonymous with Slovenia’s natural beauty. Surrounded by majestic peaks and lush forests, Lake Bled is truly a world wonder. Overlooking the lake on an enormous cliff is the 1000-year-ago Bled Castle, the oldest castle in Slovenia. In the middle of the lake is an island with a pretty church, the history of which is long and shrouded in legend. The gondola-like boat called pletna will take you there and back, and visiting Bled should certainly not go without trying its delicious local specialty called kremišnita. Once you’ve tasted the cake and Bled, you will likely feel the urge to explore the rest of Slovenia’s mountains, so be prepared to come back soon!
