Start your day trip from Bled to Triglav National Park on the boardwalks of Vintgar, the most popular gorge in Slovenia, and wear out your cameras on this 1.5 hrs walk of spectacular scenery in Triglav National Park. After Vintgar, we will continue away from the regular tourist paths and venture into the lesser-known valleys, Radovna and Krma. There, we will see a mix of beautiful forests and grazing meadows surrounded by towering peaks of the Julian Alps. Feel how time stands still in the tiny shepherding villages, untouched by the fast-paced tempo of the outside world.

The next destination is Vrata Valley (vrata=gates) in the very heart of Triglav National Park, a gate to the highest peaks of Slovenia, marked by the flow of Triglavska Bistrica stream. We will stop at Peričnik waterfall, a narrow stream of water that cascades over two ledges carved into the sheer rocks and drops into a pool below. The most unique feature of this waterfall is a footpath that leads around the falling water, allowing visitors to observe it up close and feel the spray of tiny droplets on their skins.

Continuing further along Vrata valley, we will stop by a mountain hut for a lunch break. You can choose between traditional dishes from the hut’s popular kitchen or enjoy your packed picnic. Afterwards, we will walk to the head of this glacial-made valley, marked by the majestic north face of the highest mountain in Slovenia – Mount Triglav. It is a vertical limestone cliff of almost 1,000m (3300 feet) of elevation that stretches 3,000m (9800 feet) across and it is considered one of the most impressive mountain faces in the country. It was first climbed as early as the 19th century – and if you look closely, you might even be able to spot some brave souls tackling this stone giant.

A trip in the valleys of the Julian Alps would not be complete without a stop at the cradle of the sport of ski jumping – Planica in Tamar Valley. Here you can see one of the largest ski jumping hills in the world and watch ski jumpers during training to discover a completely new appreciation for this mind-boggling sport. You can take it a notch further and try out the Planica zipline in order to really experience what these winter daredevils go through.

We will spend some time around the popular Kranjska Gora resort and stop at the nature reserve of Zelenci, the source of the Sava River. After a short walk through a forest, the path will bring us to the bubbling blue-green pool, a clear oasis of peace and tranquillity. Our last stop of the day will be at the more lively Lake Jasna, where you can enjoy the views, go for a walk, have a drink or even swim in the refreshing mountain waters.

Our return will be around 7 PM, but we’re sure everyone will be left wishing they had more time to spend in the embrace of the Slovenian Alps.
