Description
A person or two can be wrong, but a million can’t. Every year, that and a bit more travel to Croatia to experience the dazzling beauty of the cascading lakes of Plitvice. On this tour, you will easily get from Ljubljana to Plitvice Lakes National Park in a day, enjoy the ride and truly experience the beauty of nature.
Among innumerous small lakes are 16 larger ones, each with its own anecdote stemming from real events (don’t worry, we won’t spoil any right now). A UNESCO World Heritage park since 1979, the lakes are renowned for their distinctive colours, ever-changing from azure to green, grey or blue, depending on the number of minerals or organisms in the water and the angle of sunlight.
Surrounded by mountains of the Dinaric Alps, the area is the perfect cool-off spot in the summer with temperatures never rising above 17.4 °C (63 °F) – and in winter offers views of frozen lakes and nature frozen in time. The nearly untouched landscape is significant for biodiversity, with several rare species like the brown bear, the grey wolf, the eagle and over 321 different kinds of butterflies – at least as many as there are reasons to visit this marvel of nature
