The superb thing about Ljubljana is that it’s in close proximity to virtually the entire country. We’ll take advantage of Slovenia’s geographical smallness and escape the city to snap a few stunning panoramic pics of the Julian Alps at the Vršič mountain pass. Picture perfect views will continue in all their glory as we make our way down to the fabulous expanses of the Trenta Valley. Unbelievable photo ops on every step.

Our journey will then take us deep into another stunning valley that time forgot. Winding through the mountains and hills, you’ll witness the magic that is the Soča River, appropriately dubbed the Emerald Queen. Nature is a masterful architect, and this part of Slovenia is truly the epitome of its work. A multitude of colours, contrasts and majestic backdrops present exceptional opportunities for some exquisite photography.

Following the river to the sublimely beautiful wilderness of Lepena Valley and the gorgeous Soča Gorge, you’ll get to witness the various shapes and formations of this incredible phenomenon up close and personal, trying out a list of landscape photo techniques. For the cherry on top, we gradually arrive at the Boka Waterfall at the sports hub of Bovec and let you click away till your heart’s content.

To end our adventure in absolute style, we’ll venture down to Goriška Brda, also known as Slovenian Tuscany. We’ll marvel at the memorizing surroundings from an idyllic lookout point where we’ll enjoy a tasty dinner and re-evaluate our photographic achievements of the day before returning to Ljubljana in the late hours of the eve.

Frequently Asked Questions

I am a single traveller, how can I book?

Don’t worry, just drop us a line in our inbox. We will do our best to try and find you some company, so if you are flexible in your travel dates, let us know as well. Do you want a private trip? No problem, we got you covered too.

Where do we meet for the day trip?

Our pickup and drop-off location that we use in Ljubljana is the usually in North City park - behind the train station. In case you would like to be picked up / dropped off at a different location, we can accommodate that as well upon booking.

Who is this trip ideal for?

Photo Trip Slovenia is designed for anyone with an interest in photography or just see Slovenia from the most beautiful angles. The trip combines travel, relaxation and photography. We welcome beginners and professionals alike. You can join us with the newest DSLR and a huge bag of equipment, simple point-and-shoot camera or really just a telephone with a solid camera. Tripod is recommended, but not crucial. You can also bring someone, who is not a photographer along. There are plenty of different sightseeing and activity opportunities on the way.

Who will be our guide / photography instructor?

Your trip guide is Vani Kalapčiev, professional landscape and adventure photographer, who started his career 10 years ago and has been awarded with numerous Canon and National Geographic awards.

How physically prepared do I need to be?

Most of the iconic spots that we will be visiting are next to or close to the main roads. Some spots are within reasonable walking/easy hiking distance, and other locations are reachable by car.

What should I bring with me?

You will need a camera and a basic lens (optional). It is advised (but not essential) to have a DSLR camera with a wide angle and a tele-photo lens. You can also bring your mirrorless or point-and-shoot cameras. A tripod is warmly recommended as well. Apart from photo gear, it is recommended to have some basic outdoor clothing and sturdy hiking shoes.

What should I wear for the Photo trip?

It is important to dress for the season. Slovenia has all 4 seasons, so please check the weather forecast before the day trip regarding temperatures and rainfall. When you are close to the Alps, the weather can change fairly quickly, so your best bet is to always bring an extra layer. We recommend shoes you will be comfortable in.

What will I learn?

Our team of pro-photographers in landscape, travel, wildlife and macro photography will help you with understanding the basics of using your camera, help you use and practice the techniques that are often used in travel and landscape photography and advise you on choosing the best lenses for different purposes. At the end, we will have an evaluation session to choose your best photographs.

What kind of transport will we use on a Photo Trip?

We will use a private car, as we wish to maintain a small group size. The vehicle has A/C and enough space for our luggage and photography gear.

What if the weather will be bad?

We will do our best to adjust the trip schedule to the weather forecast. But on the other hand, bad weather is a good opportunity to make some stunning and dramatic photographs, or we can seize that time for a detailed workshop of image postprocessing.

I took both photo trips in Slovenia (Alpine jewels and Emerald river). Vani is a really cool guy, excellent driver, and amazing photographer. He's a really relaxed and funny person and I'm very glad I met him. Thanks to him, Slovenia is my new favourite European country!

Vani drove me to the photography trip, we picked up some hitchhikers on the way (!) and had a fantastic time. Hands down, one of the best days I had while in Slovenia! He is a friendly guy and there is plenty to talk and laugh about if you share a drink with him.
I went on a one-day photo trip with Vani and it was really cool! We were 3 in his car and went to some really good spots and enjoyed the nature together. Thank you for this excursion, we had much fun!! :)
