Description of photo trip to Alpine jewels of Slovenia

We’ll start our amazing journey in Ljubljana and travel to Slovenia’s iconic Lake Bled. After getting to know each other, we’ll let you in on what we have planned for the day, followed by
a stroll around the famous glacial lake and a few photography tips.

Fantastic photo ops will be of plenty at the nearby Vintgar Gorge. The emerald Radovna River, which carves its way through this natural spectacle, embellished by rocky backdrops and the pretty Peričnik Waterfall at the end, is guaranteed to create a ton of unforgettable pics.

Oh, just in case you were wondering: yes, we will have a picnic, drink a few cold beers in the wild outdoors, and have fun analysing photographic techniques. Our lunch-break will be in the picturesque Krma Valley, a photo shoot waiting to happen.

Another top-notch spot for landscape photography is the Vrata Valley at the base of Triglav, Slovenia’s highest mountain. The towering surrounding peaks give the forested valley, dotted only with occasional pastures, a special Alpine wonderland that should definitely be captured by your lens. If time permits, we’ll head over to the lower Martuljek waterfall along an undemanding yet super pretty hiking trail.

In the evening, it’s time for some obligatory sunset photos. And where else to take them than from a vantage point overlooking the breath-taking Lake Bohinj. If the weather fails us and clouds descend too low, we’ll choose another epic landscape sunset paradise location, like the magical Lake Jasna, with its snow-white shores and unspoilt surroundings.

This rewarding day will then draw to a close with our return back to Ljubljana where the multitude of superb pics will be compared.

Vani drove me to the photography trip, we picked up some hitchhikers on the way (!) and had a fantastic time. Hands down, one of the best days I had while in Slovenia! He is a friendly guy and there is plenty to talk and laugh about if you share a drink with him.

I went on a one-day photo trip with Vani and it was really cool! We were 3 in his car and went to some really good spots and enjoyed the nature together. Thank you for this excursion, we had much fun!! :)

I took both photo trips in Slovenia (Alpine jewels and Emerald river). Vani is a really cool guy, excellent driver, and amazing photographer. He's a really relaxed and funny person and I'm very glad I met him. Thanks to him, Slovenia is my new favourite European country!

Frequently Asked Questions

Where do we meet for the day trip?

Our pickup and drop-off location that we use in Ljubljana is the usually in North City park - behind the train station. In case you would like to be picked up / dropped off at a different location, we can accommodate that as well upon booking.

Who is this trip ideal for?

Photo Trip Slovenia is designed for anyone with an interest in photography. The trip combines travel, relaxation and photography. We welcome beginners and professionals alike. You can join us with the newest DSLR and a huge bag of equipment or just a simple point-and-shoot camera. You can also bring someone, who is not a photographer along. There are plenty of different sightseeing and activity opportunities on the way.

Who will be our guide / photography instructor?

Your trip guide is Vani Kalapčiev, professional landscape and adventure photographer, who started his career 10 years ago and has been awarded with numerous Canon and National Geographic awards.

How physically prepared do I need to be?

Most of the iconic spots that we will be visiting are next to or close to the main roads. Some spots are within reasonable walking/easy hiking distance, and other locations are reachable by car.

What should I bring with me?

You will need a camera and a basic lens (optional). It is advised (but not essential) to have a DSLR camera with a wide angle and a tele-photo lens. You can also bring your mirrorless or point-and-shoot cameras. A tripod is warmly recommended as well. Apart from photo gear, it is recommended to have some basic outdoor clothing and sturdy hiking shoes.

What should I wear for the Photo trip?

It is important to dress for the season. Slovenia has all 4 seasons, so please check the weather forecast before the day trip regarding temperatures and rainfall. When you are close to the Alps, the weather can change fairly quickly, so your best bet is to always bring an extra layer. We recommend shoes you will be comfortable in.

What will I learn?

Our team of pro-photographers in landscape, travel, wildlife and macro photography will help you with understanding the basics of using your camera, help you use and practice the techniques that are often used in travel and landscape photography and advise you on choosing the best lenses for different purposes. At the end, we will have an evaluation session to choose your best photographs.

What kind of transport will we use on a Photo Trip?

We will use a private car, as we wish to maintain a small group size. The vehicle has A/C and enough space for our luggage and photography gear.

What if the weather will be bad?

We will do our best to adjust the trip schedule to the weather forecast. But on the other hand, bad weather is a good opportunity to make some stunning and dramatic photographs, or we can seize that time for a detailed workshop of image postprocessing.
