Its largest urban centre is Koper, with the entire region consisting of around 120 settlements. This Mediterranean part of the country has a very diverse and complex history, shared with Italy and Croatia. Famous for its wine, olive oil and salt production, Slovenian Istria is a very popular tourist destination.
